When can I start my French classes?2021-07-14T15:02:06+02:00

Classes for beginners open in September, January and May (based on availability).

Non-beginners can start classes at any time based on their level and availability.

When can I come in person to get information or register?2021-07-14T15:01:49+02:00

Our offices are open Mondays to Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

What method do you use to teach French?2021-07-14T15:00:48+02:00

We use the Silent Way, a method used at the University of Tours – the largest university for linguistics in France – with the aim that our students speak French correctly.

This method focuses on oral expression. From the very beginning, our teachers correct all the mistakes their students make (pronunciation, rhythm, sentence structure, etc.).

In addition to classwork to practice your oral and written comprehension, you will be given homework, based on your level, to practice your written French.

What is the schedule like for French classes?2021-07-14T14:59:26+02:00

Classes: 8:35 am to 11:20 am and 1:35 pm to 3:35 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
We follow the schedule of schools in Massy so that parents can drop off and pick up their children on time.

We welcome students of all ages.

I want to stay with a host family who lives nearby so I can come to school on foot. Is this possible?2021-07-14T15:04:06+02:00

We do not provide such an arrangement. You will have to do your own research for this option.

I want to register for 2 weeks. Is this possible?2021-07-14T15:02:50+02:00

Yes, you can register for 2 weeks or more.

However, it is worth noting that a 2-week course for a beginner will not be sufficient. Short courses are recommended for more advanced students who want to fine-tune their skills.

How can I get a long-stay visitor visa?2021-07-14T15:10:01+02:00

You must apply for this visa at the French consulate in your country of origin or residence using the website https://france-visas.gouv.fr/en_US/web/france-visas/ai-je-besoin-d-un-visa.

You will need to provide proof of pre-registration that indicates that you will be taking French classes.

The administrative procedures can be summarised in 3 steps:

  • Registration at our school
  • France Visa process
  • Granting of visa
Do you provide proof of registration that I can use for my residence permit?2021-07-14T15:08:14+02:00

Yes, once the registration process is complete.

Do teachers give explanations in English during class?2021-07-14T15:07:10+02:00

No. Our teachers teach French in French, and do not use English unless absolutely necessary. We believe that the direct method is the most efficient way of learning French. In our experience, translating limits our students’ progress. By translating vocabulary and explanations to try and understand “perfectly”, students choose a seemingly easy method of learning that will prove to be ineffective over time.

The other reason we do not translate is that English is not the only language used by students. Our students represent many nationalities and some may not understand English.

Do I need a visa to study in France?2021-07-14T15:11:33+02:00
  • Citizens of EU member countries: you do not need a visa.
  • Citizens of non-EU member countries:
    • Stays for less than 90 days: the visa to apply for is the short-stay visa known as the “Schengen visa”.  Some countries are exempt from this visa.
    • Stays for more than 90 days: the visa to apply for is the long-stay visitor visa.

Can I register without taking a test?2021-07-14T15:02:21+02:00

No, unless you are a complete beginner*. The test allows us to know what your level is and assign a class to you based on your linguistic needs.

(*) A beginner is someone who has never studied French before or who has no knowledge of the French language (ex., if you only know a few words or 2 to 3 phrases at the most).
